A quiet Friday afternoon on Greenville’s Belhaven Street was shattered by violence in an apparent attempted murder-suicide. Police are investigating after a domestic situation turned deadly outside a residence at 247 Belhaven Street around 12:30 p.m.
Authorities were swiftly alerted by a FLOCK Safety camera system’s “shots fired” notification, directing them to the scene. Upon arrival, officers discovered two wounded individuals: a man and a woman.
Preliminary investigation indicates that 39-year-old James McClinton confronted his estranged wife, 34-year-old Lekasha McClinton. As she attempted to flee the residence, he allegedly shot her in the back. James McClinton then turned the gun on himself, dying at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Lekasha McClinton was rushed to a local hospital, where she remains in critical condition, fighting for her life. The couple’s tragic story underscores the severe dangers that can accompany domestic disputes and separation.
